Chapter 7

TELL THEM HOW YOU REALLY FEEL

Damian and Edwin arrived home to see Royce home from the shop early. Royce could tell something was wrong by the look his younger brothers wore on their faces. He stopped working on his online courses to see what bothered them, but he had a feeling he already knew what worried them. Edwin sat down on the couch as he spoke out aloud, “We have to do something about Detective Greene.” Damian replied, “There’s not much we can do besides talk to Pops when his visitation starts. Doing anything other than that will only make our situation worse.” Edwin wasn’t hearing anything Damian had to say, “You made it worse. How am I supposed to function when I got to wake up every day knowing someone has intentions of harming me. And how can you say that knowing you have a hit on your head if you go anywhere close to the west end again Damian.” Royce closed his laptop then turned off the news, “What’s he talking about Damian?” Damian told Royce the truth, “I went out west to see if my intuition about Detective Greene was right. I thought I was unrecognizable in Andrea’s car, but Detective Greene recognized it anyway.” Royce wasn’t mad at Damian, he knew he would make a move by himself, “Was your intuition, right?” “Yes,” Damian replied. Royce got up to stretch, “I can’t be mad at you for following your gut, but you should’ve talked that move over with me before you made it.” Damian reminded Royce, “You’re the one that said you don’t want to be fully in this shit. So, forgive me for doing what I felt I had to do without you.” Royce replied, “It was a move that obviously didn’t help our situation, Damian. We need to stick together and move smarter from here on out. We can’t let our situation turn us against each other.” Royce then spoke to Edwin as he handed him a stack of recruiting letters, “You just stay focused on what I told you to focus on.” Edwin ignored the recruiting letters, “How am I supposed to do that though Royce!? Dame has a price on his head if he goes to the West-End! You know Central High’s Address is 1130 WEST Chestnut St! That means he can’t pick me up from practice or go to none of my games no more, and I gotta have y’all both there watching me play!” Royce calmly reminded Edwin, “We weren’t there with you at camp, and you showed out while you were there by yourself?” Edwin told Royce what happened at camp, “That was because some kid dug deep into my business and brought up Pops while I was up there.” Royce asked, “Really? How’d that make you feel?” “Pissed off, I tried to fight him, but I got held back by my friend.” Royce replied with a couple questions, “But you didn’t let it slide, did you? You got your revenge back, someway didn’t you?” Edwin replied, “Yeah, on the court.
